Refugee communities supported by QSA in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh
This is the second project supported from QSA only funds and the generous support of individual Friends. The project partner there is the Bangladesh Association for Sustainable Development (BASD). Rohingya Refugees began arriving in large number to Cox’s Bazar in August 2017, and BASD has been working with groups of them since December 2019, providing training in permaculture style food gardens to supplement food rations with fresh produce.
It is a difficult environment at the best of times, and COVID-19 has made it even more so. At a recent workshop, participants were asked by a visitor what they valued most in their training course – their reply:
Care of People & care of the Earth, ways of care of environment, learn ways not to pollute air, water, environment, soil. We also learn trees are best friends of men, we should not cutting trees as deforestation, if we need to cut 1 tree we should plant another 10, organic cultivation, pesticide preparation and use technique, technique of identification of quality seed, use and benefit of organic compost, love people & obey natural rules is another learning. We will use the leaning in camp areas & in our mother land when will go back, learning will be transform to neighbor & next generation.
